Technology In The Classroom

The boundries of technology are expanding rapidly. I am amazed at the technology offered to students nowadays, compared to when I was there. Not to mention the skills they have aquired in it's use. I found it very interesting when I was taking the quiz in class and we were asked to list four ways technology was used when I went to school, and four ways technology is used now in schools. I had no problem listing four ways to use technology now. However, it was not as easy thinking of ways it was used when I was there. Just in the last ten or fifteen years technology has advanced tramendously. As said in the article we read for class, it now is not as much a question weather or not to use a calculator or computer, but rather when it should be used.
There are so many ways to use technology to teach almost any subject. It could be so useful for the entire class to have access to a computer. If this was possible any question could be answered by simply typing the question in a search engine. Typing on the computer allows students to practice spelling, yet is new and fun for them. Technology can be used as a great source of information and aid to enhance the learning environment in the classroom. However, using technology also has a few drawbacks. Though typing on a computer can help a students spelling skills what happens to penamnship? They practice of writing is something that cannot be done using technology. It is something that is important and needs to be done by hand. I also think it is important to use a variety of teaching methods. There will never a class where all students learn the same. While some students might learn best using technology, others might really struggle and not progress as much. It is important as a teacher to use a variety of learning styles to acomadate all learning styles.
In conclusion I believe that the students I will be teaching will be digital natives. I know very little about technology. It has advanced so much since I was in elementary. I have a lot to learn. It will be a challenge to keep up with the students, but it is something very intersting. It is new and exciting and will be fun to learn about.
