I thought this iMovie assignement was fun, but very time consuming and more difficult than I expected it to be. I don't think it would be appropriate to have elementary students create a movie using iMovie or other similiar applications. However, I do think it would be fun for students in upper grades, such as fifth or sixth grade, to film a movie then the teacher could put it together in iMovie for them. It would be benificial for the students, because if you are able to use the information you learn in class in ways other than doing worksheets and taking tests, it is usually easier to remeber. Filming a movie could be used as a final a project.
I think that if students had to create the entire movie, using iMovie they would spend more time learning the technology than the actual information they are presenting in the movie. However, I think there could be a balance between learning concepts and technology if the students are required to film a movie rather than put the entire thing together in iMovie. This would allow the student to use some technology by filming the movie, but it is still simple enough that they can focus on the educational purposes of the the movie.
I think iMovie is something I would have the students in my classroom use because I think it would be to difficult for them. However, I do not think I would totally exclude iMovie from the classroom. It could be used for me to present educational movies to the class, such as the ones we made in class.

I agree that having students learn in ways other than using worksheets and tests makes it more meaningful for them. In turn, the student is more likely to remember the concept.
I agree that there could be a balance between learning concepts and technology if the students help film rather than to put the whole thing together using iMovie. They would have fun, it would be something out of the ordinary, and the students would really enjoy filming each other and making their own movie.
